Busy monday….

Published by admin under The random update blog!

So on monday, i went to the c-skins factory in bodmin to collect my new suit….. i got the series 2 front zip, it has

  • Blindstitched seams
  • 100% LQS Liquid Seam System
  • 70% Ultra Stretch C-Flex neoprene
  • 30% Ultra Stretch C-Flex Airloc neoprene (front body)
  • QuickDri Poly Pro interior front body panel
  • DuroFlx knee pads
  • Super seal glideskin collar
  • D.F.Z – Diagonal Front Zipper with bungee fixers
  • Lock Down Cuff seals
  • Re-Designed Clam Shell neck entry
  • Ultra minimal seam styling = more stretch
  • Pre bent elbows and knees
  • Engineered fit
  • YKK Front Zip
  • Key Pocket

Went in today with the new suit this morning to try out the new slipper model by Beachbeat surfboards – it’s  ‘cruisey’ surfboard originally designed for summer time mush, basically a longboard with the middle cut out. It has a fuller nose that the Mini Mal. Bare that in mind, this shape is impressive in clean, head high surf when surfed smooth rail to rail  as well as the smaller weaker waves we often get.  The wide template gives awesome paddle speed and early entry into waves with good initial stability.  Under the full nose is a single concave to aid plaining through flat sections and to warrant a sneaky hang 5 should the surfer feel the need.  The increased ‘V’ in the tail stops this short and wide board from surfing too flat and gives swift transitions from rail to rail.  2 + 1 fin set up, so great as a single fin or tri fin set up. Picture of the board below…

A great way to sart of a mid week wednesday…..

cheerio….

Go big…Or go home….

Published by admin under The random update blog!

so the recent “big swell” seen portreath harbour wall on fire…. naturally… with me, i feal alot more safer in bigger waves! i love the buzz and the pump you get from droppin down a massive face…. bliss!!!

so i hooked up with ben howard, and we headed to the harbour wall…. we got there solid double over head waves and breaking really heavy in about 3/4ft of water!!….. intimidated? yea… i was!

so ben set up and i paddeled out….. was a great session, this was the first waves ben snapped of me!

After this first waves i got more and more comfertable, this was the first time i had surfed this wave and what an experiance!… so the next wave, i got a little too “cocky”  it was the first wave of the set and nobody went, i turned the 9′1 ariund and went for it, hearing hooting and screams of nutter as i paddled…. the bottom just dropped out!! i kicked the board out and curled up into a ball…. i hit the reef on the bottom and also took a solid bang on my head causing my nose to pour out with blood! i came up and was stood on the reef in about waist deep water…. and…..HALF A BOARD the wave snapped my board clean in half! not being put off by this i paddled back out to get into another one… but due to the broken equipment, i couldn’t get any and had to paddle back to shore…. where, kirstian prisk was waiting for me and took these snapps!!!

Thanks to Ben and Kirstin for the Photos!!! excellant day….

Comp season over… what now?

Published by admin under Surf trips and reviews

so, with all the action over for 2010, what does the ever hungry surfer do now? work? (urh, please don’t swear at me) naturally of course, he goes in search of the endless summer……

for me, this is based on 3 trips…..

the first is a combination of competing and surf training, PORTUGAL from the 22nd november – 2nd december… whilst down there i will be competing in the ETL event… my first ever european event…. so i am rather nervous about what to expect from the results!!

The next one is MOROCCO this is from the 5th jan – 22nd jan… this is a leisure holiday with about 5 surfers all from perranporth a “lads” trip if you will…. should be fun….

the next, BALI from the 16th feb – 27th March – this has always been a dream of mine for so many years and i can’t wait to get out there and let some training get serious… boardies….endless lefts….barrells…. heaven for me on my longboard!!!!

so hopefully, with these trips, i hope to be alot more improved and ready for the 2011 comp season!!!

So that’s it for another year…

Published by admin under Contest reviews / results

Well the BLU tour has ended for another year… this was my first year of serious competing and i finshed the tour joint 13th…

i was joint 9th coming into the last event at gwithian, so i was praying for big waves, that wasn’t to come, altho, i still made the 1/4’s in knee high gutless dribble…. and weighin in at 16st 10lb, i have a huge disadvantage against all my other competiters!… but none the less, i think i still put in a solid effort…. so next year all i can do is head for improvment next season…

Thanks to Adrian from surftalk for the photos!

My rescue….. godrevy this morning

Published by admin under The random update blog!

well… a trip surfing turned out a bit wrong today, i headed off to godrevy this morning and met up with my sponsors camera crew and i got in the sea get a few waves and see someone about 1/4 of a mile out too sea waving his arms franticly…… i instantly though ‘is he in trouble or waving at someone to the beach….’ having watchin him for 5 minutes and seeing no one on the beach wave back, i started to paddle as hard as i could out too sea…. with somone else seeing me he followed suit…..

i kid you not it took me 15 minutes to get to him he was that far out!!!!!!!

having got there he was out of breath shocked scared and shaking…. firstly told him not to panic relax he’s safe we got him….. poor guy couldn’t speak he was that scared, he was only about 18/19….

told him to grab hold of my leash and started to paddle in with him…… took me 25 minutes to get him the other guy was just shadowing me to make sur for waves etc…

we got him to the beach and he just explained what happened, he said he was trying to catch a wave but got so tired he coukldn’t paddle anymore then started to get cold…. he couldnt thank me enough and i felt really happy to help save someones life….

the bonus is my sponsors were snapping away whilst it all happened!!! so here are some photos for you!!!
